Xavier and Kayla’s engagement story proves that when you mix a little Portland drizzle, a surprise proposal, and a burst of sunshine, you get a memorable day. They started their adventure along the waterfront in Downtown Portland, surrounded by vibrant pink cherry blossoms. The morning rain worked in their favor by keeping the usual crowds at bay. Then, just when it looked like the rain might overstay its welcome, the clouds drifted apart, the sun emerged, and everything lined up perfectly for Xavier’s big moment.

As a two-photographer team at Sightglass Photography, we’ve seen it all when it comes to Oregon’s weather. The shift from rain to sun gave us the chance to capture a range of looks—from moody overcast to bright and cheerful. Between the wide cityscape shots that showed off the waterfront and the intimate close-ups of Kayla’s delighted reaction, the variety of lighting conditions added a unique flair to the whole session.
